WLW: Time, or Lack Thereof   2 comments

I have a confession to make. I haven’t worked out in at least two weeks. And yes, I know, I can’t really lose weight without working out at least once a week or so. But I have honestly been having trouble figuring out when to do it. Tax season is underway, which means working. And when I get home, the husband likes to occupy the TV. Which means that my access to the Wii Fit requires a lot more motivation on my part. Since I’d have to convince him to get off of whatever game he’s playing in order to let me on. In the midst of all that, I’m trying to be a little more regular about writing and working on revisions. So basically, I’m not doing, and I don’t really have a reason other than I’m busy. So, even though I know there are much busier people than me making time to work out, it seems hard.

On the positive side of things, I don’t think I’ve been gaining weight. My clothes are feeling looser. And I’ve been keeping up with my drinking water thing, so I assume that any weight I’m losing is due to that. Somehow, drinking water makes me hungry for things like fruit, instead of chocolate bars. Though it probably helps that I’ve been buying more fruit instead of chocolate bars.  And as much as money problems suck, food that I cook at home is better for me than the more expensive stuff at McDonalds. So it all works together. There’s also the fact that I have to park in a garage that’s about half a block away from the office. So I’m getting in a little more activity. Past years, I’ve always lost a little weight during tax season just from the walk to and from the parking garage. I imagine that’s not hurting me this year either.

I have no idea what my weight is, since I haven’t been on the Wii Fit. But if I had to estimate, I’d say 190. So that only puts me 25 away from my goal. I will confirm or deny that weight next week.

  1. Hi Deb! Happy New Year…even though it’s nearly February. Hehe. I read your blog all the time, I just lurk. :D

Best of luck with the weight loss. I work out for an hour five days a week, and I still have a very hard time losing weight. Probably because my exercise routine is…routine. They always say changing up what you do helps, along with the water thing, and not cutting too many calories and even having cheat meals so as not to stunt your metabolism. All these blah blah things and it’s still so slow and difficult to stay on track!

Have you tried exercising early in the morning? That’s what I do (5:30-6:30). Which sounds insane–especially since I’m one who used to stay up later than that. But after a year plus of doing it, it’s absolutely the best time for me. Even if I go back to sleep after (which is the best sleep ever, by the way). Makes the whole day better because if nothing else, I accomplished that. Plus, then I don’t have the rest of a busy day to talk me out of exercising later!

    • I have considered the get-up-early method. The main snag I run into is that my bedtime is fairly set, and I would need it to be much earlier if I wanted to work out in the mornings. But the hubby watches the baby during the days, so we keep her on his sleep schedule. Which means she starts getting ready for bed at 1am, and I’m usually the parent that has to put her to bed. I already only get about 5 hours of sleep in a night. If I got up any earlier, I wouldn’t be able to function.

For a while, I was doing a really good job of working out at night, and I really like the way I just immediately fall asleep on a night when I’ve worked out. I think really, the issue is that I got out of the habit when my uncle died and then our wii fit plus disc got messed up (it just needs to be taken somewhere to have the rub mark buffed off). Then I followed those things up with starting up working during the tax season and basically life just flipped on end. I’m hoping that very soon I’ll have a more regular schedule to my life and I’ll be able to figure out where the exercise needs to go.
